2005 Nissan Xterra: Xtreme Bargain?

This is one of the old school truck-based SUVs, built body-on-frame. Sticker was about $21k to $27k when new. The same model is still in production in 2010.

Equipped with a 4.0 liter V6, good for 265 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque it was built for the X crowd (skiers, bikers, surfers, etc). I think there was a TV commercial where a guy used the back to rig up slings and traction gear for recovering from his “active lifestyle” injuries from sailing off a cliff or something. Even the rear bumper has a step in it to provide access to the roof rack.

It came with 4 wheel disc brakes and ABS and either a 5 speed automatic or 6 speed manual transmission. Four wheel drive was optional. That’s why we often see SUVs in a ditch during snow season…

The private party KBB value for a 2005 Xterra S model is now about $12,900 (60k miles) which is about half of its original price.
