I’ve driven one of these. Everything was butter smooth, just exquisite; power everything and a little bit of chassis flex because it’s an open top car.
Equipped with the same 300 hp 4.3 liter V8 as in the GS430 and LS430 of the same era it has pretty good oomph. The transmission is a 5 speed auto.
Even though it is technically a 2+2, for all intents and purposes, it is a 2-seater with a parcel shelf. I don’t know why any manufacturer would call a car a 2+2. It’s either a 4-seater or it’s not.
But what a safe two seats they are. Dual front airbags, side airbags in the seats, ABS, traction control and electronic brake force distribution are all standard. As is Lexus luxury and quality.
It is a bit of a porker at around 3,900 lbs (car-and-a-half you might say), in part due to the complicated folding hardtop. The styling is kind of different but it’s a neat car.
What’s most amazing is that eight years later its Blue Book value is around $14,700 (at 96k miles) which equates to just 25% of it’s original $59,000 sticker. Wowsers! That is some serious depreciation, which is great for the buyer if the leather seats are in good shape and the maintenance costs don’t eat you.
